In the southern area of the province of La Spezia lies Lerici, an area surrounded by hills and inserted in one of the most beautiful inlets of the entire Riviera. Part of the Montemarcello Regional Park, Lerici is called “The Pearl of the Gulf of Poets”. The place has welcomed famous poets and writers such as Percy B. Shelley, George G. Byron and Mario Soldati since the early 1800s.
The origins of the town are to be attributed to an Etruscan settlement. In the Middle Ages it lived its most flourishing period and later Lerici is considered, first by the Ligurians and later by the Romans, a port of fundamental importance thanks to its strategic position.
Tourists can still admire the castle of San Giorgio among the most evocative monuments, which preserves the external walls almost intact.
Exceptional is the promenade that welcomes, on one side, the beaches of Tellaro and on the other, a long walk that leads beyond the port.
